Jill Robertson, PT

I have been treating patients since 1987 when I graduated from Dalhousie University with a BSc(PT). I returned to Dalhousie University to research manual therapy treatment of the hip and received my MSc(PT) in 2001. I opened Beaverbank Orthopaedic and Sport Physiotherapy in 1993 and Young Kempt Physiotherapy in 2002. I sold these clinics in 2017 and opened Jill Robertson Physiotherapy and Consulting in Fall River.

I taught part time at Dalhousie University in the Orthopaedics department of the School of Physiotherapy for 26 years. Currently, I am an instructor, examiner, and Lead Examiner for the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. I am a mentor for physiotherapists who are training for their Diploma in Manipulative Therapy. In 2009, I received the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Mentorship award. In 2012, I was named the NS College of Physiotherapy “Physiotherapist of the Year”. In 2012 I received the designation Clinical Specialist Musculoskeletal from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

I believe manual therapy is an important component in the rehabilitation of many patients. I understand that the manual therapy treatment techniques help to restore joint motion, muscle flexibility and nerve mobility but that full function requires the integration of joint motion, muscular activation and endurance, overall proper posture and movement patterns. My treatment philosophy involves empowering the patient with knowledge. Patients who understand their condition will be able to avoid aggravating stresses and perform exercises to maintain the improvements gained from physiotherapy.

Candice Bannister, PT

I graduated with a Masters degree in Physiotherapy from McMaster University in 2008 after completing my BSc Kinesiology degree from the University of New Brunswick in 2006. In 2017 I completed a second Masters in Clinical Science Physical Therapy (Manipulative Therapy) degree from the University of Western Ontario. This additional training allowed me to become a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT).

I have completed additional training in:

  • Concussion Rehabilitation
  • Vestibular Rehabilitation
  • McKenzie Method for the treatment of low back pain
  • Running injuries and prevention
  • Exercise prescription
  • Soft tissue based treatment approaches
  • Acupuncture: certified through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute.

I am passionate about working with motivated individuals, of all ages, who want to improve their physical well-being or prevent injury. I believe education and self-management techniques are important components in a treatment plan. I strive to help people stay active in their activities and sports by using evidence informed manual therapy techniques, exercise prescription and modalities to help them return to the activities they love.

I love to hike, run, play Ultimate Frisbee, ski, read and hang out with my two young, energetic children and husband. I enjoy mentoring other physiotherapists who have chosen to pursue their advanced manual therapy training.
